“I’M A MUSLIM – I TRUST YOU, DO YOU TRUST ME?”
My friend Simon from Sweden (see his note below my rant), sent me this short video. In it, we see a blindfolded Muslim with the words above handwritten on a cardboard sign at his feet.
He stood there for hours. Arms widespread. Inviting people to hug him. Over that period of time, 142 people chose to do so.
If you’ve listened to Reinvention Radio, you would know that I have STRONG opinions. You would also know that I love my weed and that I’m a Jew.
Reinvention Radio is all about dismantling the status quo. And, I believe that it is time for us to dismantle our (what appears to be a universal) opinion about ALL Muslims.
Are some Muslims fucked out of their minds? Yes, of course. But, there are Jews who are fucked out of their minds, Christians who are fucked out of their minds, Buddhists who are fucked out of their minds, Baptists who are fucked out of their minds… and don’t even get me started on Scientologists.
I’ll be the first to admit that when I see someone in a burka, with a long beard, with a turban, or in a Toyota truck, I get nervous. The same way I used to get nervous going on stage… the same way I used to get nervous talking to girls… the same way I used to get nervous before an important meeting.
But, I felt the fear and did it anyways. And, from each experience where I was able to push beyond my self-imposed, perceived limitations, I grew stronger as a person.
So, the next time you see a Muslim — try to see that person for what they are — a human being. A human being who, like you and me, has a right to exist, a right to live without unwarranted persecution and a right to enjoy all of God’s beautiful creations.
And, while we all have different definitions of what ‘God’ is, their philosophies don’t make them wrong and you right or vice versa. Fact is, we’re all idiots who have been brainwashed to believe that ‘God’ is what we’ve been told it is.
When you come right down to it, we’re fighting over an imaginary friend who is the leading actor in a poorly written movie. You don’t know who or what God is. I don’t know who or what God is. No one knows who or what God is.
And, anyone who tells you that they know who or what God is and have met this ‘God’, they might have some really good substances that your good buddy Steve might enjoy… so please provide an introduction if you can.
Look, we’re never going to be able to convince someone that our way is the right way if they are not open to subjecting themselves to your diatribe or open to the possibility. My hope, though, is that we can universally agree upon the premise that if some asshole decides to take the law into his own hands and play God by deciding who should live and who should die, then that person needs to be put out of their misery sooner rather than later.
I don’t advocate violence, but I do advocate obliterating those from the face of the earth who believe that killing innocent people is the means with which to attain their warped objectives.
At the end of the day, when united, the citizens of our world are an unstoppable force. When divided, we’re hosed.
It’s been said that ‘when you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.’ So, for the love of God (in whatever form, shape, creed, color, sex or size you define your God to be), can we PLEASE, once and for all, decide to take a stand… as a people… together… and vote Tom Cruise off the island.
It’s a mission I choose to accept and hope that you’ll join me. It may very well be the only way we can truly save our species…
From my friend Simon…
“As you know, Paris was hit by terrorist attacks. Sweden has as many ISIL-fighters as the U.S. (yep, it’s true), has limited terrorist-fighting abilities and basically no border control (a person had gone over the bridge between Denmark and Sweden 10 times without meeting any resistance). Oh, and a friend told me people had refused to get on a bus because people on it wore a burka. In other words: things are fucked.”
“However, there are things that give me hope. Like for example a video I saw a few days ago. It’s a social experiment, with a blindfolded Muslim, standing in the streets with a sign saying, ‘I’m a Muslim – I trust you, do you trust me?’ In the short video, we see people coming up to hug him. 142 in total. It’s so damn reassuring.”
“So, what I want to ask you to do is share this video with others. We could reach hundreds of thousands, which could turn into millions if they shared it. It’s already been viewed by 1.3 million people but maybe you could be the ignition to double that AND spread it to the U.S.”
